Lutherie Log™

Every build in the shop is tracked with real acoustic science, not guesswork: tap-tone frequency analysis, plate stiffness-to-weight and density ratios, moisture content logs, and wood species/grain grading — alongside phase-by-phase build photos and hours logged from raw tonewood to a finished, tested instrument. See the science and craftsmanship behind every acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and ukulele build in progress at Utah School of Lutherie©.

A Real Shop in Logan, Utah

I’m Daryl vanderGroef, founder and master luthier at Utah School of Lutherie. I build custom guitars, electrics, and ukuleles on commission, and I teach the craft one-on-one to anyone willing to get sawdust on their boots.

What I’ve built here is a place to learn lutherie the way it has always been taught: standing next to a working craftsman, doing real work on real instruments from day one.
